Borneo Excursions is committed to sustaining the environment, heritage, culture and peoples of the area we feature in our tour packages.
We acknowledge that a significant and growing number of travellers are looking for responsible ways of travelling - they want to get closer to the people of the destination they visit and experience the city’s natural and cultural heritage, with a good conscience and the knowledge that they are doing so in a responsible way without having any adverse effect on the destination.
At Borneo Excursions, we are dedicated to provide travel experiences that minimise environmental and social impact upon these destinations and maximise the economic benefits of the local people.
Economic responsibility
We support the local economies by only employing local staffs, tour guide and drivers. We use establishments that source food supply from local suppliers. Wherever possible we work with locally owned hotels and lodges. We inform clients about local markets from where they can buy souvenirs produced by local people and wherever possible we include stops at local markets to improve local revenue. By doing this we help to ensure a large percentage of the revenue from our tours goes back into the local community of the destinations we feature.
Environmental responsibility
Wherever possible we use hotels and establishments that use biodegrable chemicals in their washing and cleaning, and establishments that offers options to reduce the amount of detergents used through Washing by Request program. If a hotel is part of a chain, we have thoroughly checked that they are working in the best possible practices.
We encourage our clients not to support any trade or products that involve animal parts, environment degradation or unsustainable practices.
Social responsibility
Our tour guides are trained to brief our clients of the do’s and don’ts when visiting a destination such as respecting local cultures in dress, behaviour and speech, and minding local customs such as asking permission to take photos and taking off shoes before entering a local’s house. We place emphasise on preserving the local cultures while providing the opportunities for interaction between our clients and the local people.
Our own commitment
We recycle all our papers, travel publications, cardboard and print cartridges.
Where possible, we reuse our paper for rough work.
We only print when necessary and we have our printer set up so it prints double sided or two pages on one page.
We configure our incoming fax into the computer so we can choose what to print. We minimise outgoing fax by
sending faxes through emails.
We turn office lights and electrical office equipments off when not in use.
We ensure that all our local employees have good and safe working conditions with reasonable working hours and
a fair wage as per industry standard. We provide medical care, group insurance and training opportunities for our
employees. We contribute to Employee Provident Fund and Social Security Organisation for all our employees.
Borneo Excursions employ local people from different ethnic groups in Borneo, and we are committed to ensuring
that within our multicultural teams, that nobody is harassed or discriminated against for any reason such as their
race, religion, belief, sex, age or disability. We ensure that all our dealings with one another shall be characterised
by courtesy, fairness, openness and respect of each other’s culture.
