Kota Belud Sunday Market

Get a taste of the local culture with a tour to Kota Belud. Pick up from your hotel in the morning and journey north for 1.30 hours, passing scenic paddy fields, orchards and local villages. This is the home of the Bajaus, a local native tribe famous for their horse riding skills and for this they are called the ‘Cowboys of the East’. Every Sunday, this small town bustles with its open-air market, locally known as the ‘Tamu’. You will find a colourful assortment of local produces, handicrafts, clothing, accessories, footwear and houseware on sale. The age-old barter system is still practiced here. The market is also a place to socialise for the community. You will see women giggle over local gossips while the men share farming tips and argue over which team will win the football game. Sometimes, buffalo and cow auction is held. Buffalo is used widely in the rice cultivation in the areas around Kota Belud. After tour, return to Kota Kinabalu and drop off at your hotel.
